about the record
Fossils is the third record from Names On Tapes in five months. Following We Weren’t Programmed For This and After the Fact.
The album explores what remains after the noise clears. For Fossils, Kleiner and avant-garde guitarist Stacey Hine worked with a deliberately limited palette. They chose to move away from the frictionless nature of the digital grid, pushing their tools until they felt physical and off-grid. The result favours the grit of a decaying loop or a half-erased melody over clean digital assembly.
It is a record of ghostly precision and broken signals: an archaeology of sound captured during a high-output creative run before the moment went stale.
